Disciple celebrates 20 years 'Scars Remain' with new merch and fall tour

Disciple is celebrating 20 years since the release of their iconic album Scars Remain with an exclusive merch line and a fall tour reintroducing several songs from the collection into the setlist. The merch is live now at https://disciple-rocks.myshopify.com/collections/scars-remain-20-year-anniversary, with all tour dates and tickets at https://disciplerocks.com/tour/.

Scars Remain was released on November 7, 2006, through INO Records. The album spawned mega-hits for the band like "Game On" (which earned WWE and NFL licensing agreements) and "After the World." Scars Remain won the 2008 Dove Award for Rock Album of the Year.

"We didn't know what we were making when we made Scars Remain," reflects Disciple founder and lead singer Kevin Young. "There were so many things we did differently on that album, things we'd never done before and have never done again. It was a lightning-in-a-bottle moment. When I look back as an artist, I'm proud to be part of something so creative and so different."

Part of that pride comes from the album's impact. The members of the current lineup have been making the songs their own for well over a decade now: Josiah Prince (guitar), Andrew Stanton (guitar), Joey West (drums) and newest member Dane Allen (bass and vocals). Many of them were shaped by Scars Remain as young musicians.

"When Scars Remain released, I had just started my freshman year of college and was working in the music department at our local Christian book store," shared drummer Joey West, who would join Disciple several years later. "I remember specifically opening the box full of Scars Remain CDs and being so stoked to put them on the shelf. I was even more excited to include it in my weekly habit of spending most of my paycheck on CDs. Scars Remain quickly became a staple and didn't leave my car CD player for a long time. I remember logging a lot of hours behind my drum kit at home playing along the best I could to the songs, not knowing that one day, I'd be playing those songs on stage as a member of the very band that I was such a huge fan of growing up. And to be honest? I'm still a fan."

Bass player and vocalist Dane Allen has a similar story of impact.

He says, "I was fifteen, and I had already heard the band play a few of the songs at a show in Nashville. From the moment I got the CD in the mail, it stayed with me everywhere I went. Many road trips were fueled by Scars. I turned up the radio every time I heard 'After the World.' I put Scars Remain on my MySpace page. I can still see [founding guitarist] Brad Noah playing the intro to 'Regime Change' at that show. I can't believe 20 years later that I get to play it on stage."

The band is doing exactly that all fall long: taking Scars Remain back to the stage. Though they won't be performing the album front to back, they will be incorporating many previously retired tracks back into the setlist alongside other fan favorites. You can see them this fall in one of these cities:

10/2 - Janesville, WI
10/3 - Green Bay, WI
10/4 - Attica, IN
10/9 - Nashville, TN
10/16 - Mauldin, SC
10/17 - Jacksonville, FL
10/23 - Arkansas City, KS
11/7 - Haltom City, TX

Fan excitement following early merch launch teasers have already proved the enduring impact of the album across the Christian hard rock genre. The tour promises to be an opportunity for communally celebrating songs that have become cemented in so many lives.

"Scars Remain released at a really pivotal moment for us as a band, and the album established a new kind of relationship between us and our fans," the band concludes. "Over the years, we have heard so many stories about how these songs have become a part of listeners' lives and faith journeys. We really hope you enjoy revisiting tracks like 'Game On' and 'After The World' with us this fall as we mark 20 years since they released!"
